Friday, May 13, 2005 ::: It's been 3 years since Natalie released White Lilies Island. WLI is definitely one of my all time fave albums. Finally, it's time for some new tunes from Nat. I don't really understand why she picked such an unflattering pic of her as album cover though - compare with her dazzling look on L'Oreal Paris TV commercials, perhaps this album cover was chosen to show what this album really is about - songs that are stripped down to basics, with a simple production all the way through. I was a bit disappointed after my first listen. This album does pack some breezy and uptempo pop songs that can't be hard on the ears, but apparently there're no powerful classics like Torn, melancholic numbers like Smoke and Beauty on the Fire, nor anguish amblems like Sunlight and Impressed. She's definitely taken her music to a different direction - the album is the most organic of the 3, but perhaps the songs are generally better constructed, and the simpler production helps showcase her amazing voice. Yet there are some good numbers on it though. Faves of mine include Sanctuary, Starting Today, Counting Down the Days, When You're Sleeping and Perfectly. And most of all I really love her voice. She really sounds best when singing tunes like these - her sincerity is almost moving. But OMG Honeycomb Child almost sounds like Bjork. hmmmmm (Saw her latest video recently and once again confirmed that Bjork IS plain scary) she actually looks even better on TV I think. Notice her CRYSTAL BLUE eyes! She looks GORGEOUS on TV. and OMG Manic Street Preachers' recent single sounds AMAZING. Check out Empty Souls. My current favorite. Listened to a few Weezer's track today. Their new record sound great. And oh the BEPs are back! Don't Punk with My Heart... probably not great as hits from Elephunk but phunky enough to get me shakin to it 'nah nah nah nah don't phunk with my heart' what kind of tag line is that... and Pump It! that theme from Pulp Fiction!!! And totally addicted to The Killers' Somebody Told Me! ok I know i gotta stop listing... United's FA... please don't go on strike. Please don't bring this airline down. There must be a better way out for the company and all employees.
